Nice pose you caught here Harold. The eye area looks a little funny to me, almost over sharpened I guess. Also, there is a fairly prominent sharpening halo around the subject, especially noticeable under the bill and around the belly.

Yup. This is a male - the females have a dark forehead. Nits mentioned by Jim. Good head angle and good detail in both blacks and whites. I think this would also work if you cropped some of the blue from the right. I would be tempted to clone the branch in the lower left corner.

    Hi Harold,
I wasn't going to say it..........but you know me and crops:D........all i'll say is this would also make a very fine vert presentation. Very nicely done!

    Harold:

Another way to tell male from females is that the females don't have the red cheek patch this male shows.

Very lovely capture Harold And I agree a vertical crop would work well here. Love the pose and perch and the nice detail and head turn. Well cone.

Very nice shot Harold, I'd crop it a little my self, or even make a copy, hit contol T, hold the shift key and drag the top right corner up and out to make the bird a little bigger and more to the right. Rod

Twitley dad it is, Mom does not have the red stripe in the face. ANother vote for the vertical and it is a bit over sharpened. Hope to see you soon!

Lovely pose and good exposure control. You might consider eliminating the small stick in the lower left corner. A little oversharpened as mentioned, and I would crop some of the blue sky on the right.

Nice catch, Harold. I can't add anything to what has been said except I like the image and the pose. Nice that you were able to capture the image before this guy took off. The few pileated woodpeckers I've seen always seem to be very jumpy and don't stand still for very long.

IT was really nice seeing you guys at the Alligator Farm last weekend.... I guess you left before I did on Saturday because I looked for you on my way out but you were nowhere to be found.
