I would like to share this image with you, in case you wondered what the female of my lion ( posted the other day) looks like. They are -in my opinion- a formidable pair! While he is about five years of age, she looks a little older and surely does most of the hunting. I hope I can show you the two subadults soon (that is, if you can tolerate more lion images from me).

This was shot at F6.3, ISO 1000, 1/3200s. Nikon D3S and Nikon 500 F4. Did LR adjustments and sharpening and then CS6 where I removed some of the yellows, magentas and reds but tried to retain the remains of blood on the face. Some more sharpening before posting as usual.

Many thanks for taking the time to view,

Wishing you all a happy day tomorrow,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Hi Gabriela

Very nice portrait, and good compliment to her companion. His portrait is stronger though. Good pp of course, but in my view I would like to straighten her up (now she is leaning to left, her right).

    Hi Gabriela,

very nice image. Good point made by Gregor with straightening. My first impression was, this is not her usual sharpening! I think she has a tad to much underneath the eyes going back to the ears and forehead to the back. Just my thoughts when I first saw it. Could be wrong, late over here!!

    Have a great day

    Ciao

Hi Gabriela - definitely a nice pair. It's surprising how few scars she has. They must be a formidable pride. If it were mine I would apply a luminosity mask at about 40% to tame the highlights a bit and bring out a little more detail. You could also selectively burn the whites below the nose. My first impression was that she seems a bit oversharpened. I don't suppose you got any profile shots of her to hang side by side with her mate?

    TFS,
    Rachel

P.S. Glad you like the polar bear tummy shot.

A fine portrait Gabriela and good point made above. Sharpening and straightening jumped out at me when I got passed admiring the image. Nice work.

Not sure if I detect a slight halo on the lower left hand side? Sleepy eyes this evening.

    Cheers

Hi Gabriela, I like the frame filler on this one, but also wonder if there is an alternative crop, going slimmer/tighter? I think you could have afforded a little less ISO, but assume this is from a previous setting. I do agree, the sharpening is a little crisp, not as delicate as the last posting, LOL, I would try using either a % brush so you have 100% for the face, but then reduce a little going towards the ears, likewise the LHS of the jaw as viewed, or multiple layers/masks at different settings. Perhaps not that clear, easier on a one 2 one.

Beautiful portrait! I agree with straightening. I like the sharpening as is because of the contrast with the more oof body. Adds some strength to it IMHO.

Nice portrait with very engaging eyes. I like the angle as it seems like she is cocking her head slightly. Good processing with lots of detail.

Gabriela, a nice head-on view. I would agree that the sharpening looks somewhat overcooked. If this is not a crop then straightening would result in clipping ears or chin I presume...?
I agree with Steve that the sharpening needs to be "tapered" off as it currently strongly overstates the falloff at the edge of the DOF.

Simply loved the tight framing of this lioness. Might rotate the image clock-wise by a degree or two. Agree with others on image looking a tad over-sharpened...

Thank you all so much for your comments and advice, and my apologies for replying so late I wanted to post the original to give you an idea of what the image looked like and then forgot, month end at work can be quite draining and the little energy I had left was just enough to browse through BPN wildlife images and enjoy the latest posts...Will look into your advice regarding tighter cropping as well as straightening, although I do welcome Edward's observation about the lioness "cocking her head"-thank you Edward! I specifically chose this image because of that "tilt of the head", I like the way lions walk, right limb forward, head moves to the left...and the other way around. Your comments about over-sharpening are spot-on. I think I sharpened both the RAW and the Jpeg, instead of Jpeg only. Ouch, it is overcooked, Morkel...eish, nothing escapes you, my friend

Wishing you all a great week-end,
    Gabriela Plesea
