    Default Black maned lion portrait

Since we recently have had several nice lion portraits, I thought I would try to continue that trend. This is a "old" one from my trip 2011 to Masai Mara, Kenya. I have not been away so many times as some of you other, and try to do my best of those I have on my hard disk. I "shot" this lion in the last sunlight that evening. I´m quite fond of how his big mane works as a sun collector. This time I processed him separately and background separately. Tried different color balance on the bg. I think this is difficult to judge what is best, but this is my choice so far. If I could go back, I would trade some ss for more DOF.

    Hi Gregor,

beautiful light on this proud lion. Love the sunlight in his mane, really a sun collector. The white hair around his mouth I would dodge/burn down a tad or in curve! Great one for me.

    Have a great eve

    Ciao

Hi Gregor - beautiful light here and I really like the way it hits the face, eyes and mane. Anette has mad an excellent suggestion. You could also bring out a bit more detail in the mane if you opened the midtones up slightly. Overall, very well done.

The windswept mane and grass make this work for me with that lovely light highlighting the head.

Impressive image and I like the crop.

    Hi Gregor, very nice indeed.

Second guessing but I wonder if you had a tad more FG whether it would work better? As the lion was 'stationery' I do agree that upping the DOF a fraction might have helped, but perhaps 5.6? You could try adding a Luminosity adjustment for the whites just to tone them down a fraction, but no deal breaker. Personally i'm happy with the mane & depth of tone, detail & colour.

This works very well - nice job on the exposure and the pano presentation. I would echo that it would be nice to have a sliver more foreground...but no deal breaker.
    Keep digging these gems up!

Thanks everyone for your C&C. There is some more foreground, but unfortunately it is not so pleasing dirt. So thats why i cropped pretty tight.
