Default I Won't Bite If You Rub My Tummy

This polar bear really looked like she just wanted her belly rubbed. Taken in the pack ice north of Svalbard, Norway. It was taken at around midnight and perhaps I should have dropped the white balance a little bit but I'm curious what others think.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Rachel, the colours look good to me on my iMac 27", very well done from a moving ship, that high SS did help. I like the pose very much, the HA, the toes and paws all add to it. He certainly looks like one fuzzy bear! TFS.

    Hi Rachel,

perhaps I should have dropped the white balance
Which way and why, what makes you think you need to change the WB?

I like the 'fun' element of the image and a nice behavioural shot, like the HA to camera & format of crop. I also like the colouration of the environment illustrating the various colours you do get in this location. A little too contrasty in the blacks for me, I just wonder if that has cone from the Levels & Curves adjustments? Again, like Carls image, I think there may be a masking issue with the ice pace close to the water, to the right it looks sharper than below the bear, WDYT? Personally I might take a sliver off the top just for a nice clean trim edge.

Rachel, this bear certainly wants to have her tummy rubbed, but I don't think I would trust her not to bite :). Exposure looks great to me. Nice to see the off-white fur of the bear against the pure white of the ice. I think the colors look good to my eyes. I can see taking a sliver off the top to keep the colors white would be a good idea as Steve suggested. Well done. Loi

I too would crop off the top, just above the first break in the ice which runs across the image. Colours look good to me, although I have never seen a PB in real life. An engaging and beautiful image.

Another call for a crop off the top
I love how the polar bears aren't "white" against the snow. Makes them stand out and blend in simultaneously...
Fun image, like how you layered it at the bottom, Rachel.

    Hi Rachel,

this is no call for a crop on top, but a tad crop from the left. Look what is creeping in the image in the just above the corner!
Overall I am fine with it, very nice image. The light at midnight according your WB drop. I have no clue how it was, since we had night, sort of. Dark it was
Might would drop a tad the yellow in the snow!! But that's up to you

    Have a great day

    Ciao
