Beautiful bird Ken and a wonderful pose, I like the vertical crop but would love to see more room all the way around and especially more space given to the right. If it had been possible to move a back slightly it would not have been such a steep angle. Striking image and thanks for sharing Ken.

Judy makes some good points about your image Ken. It's definitely a little tight in the frame, and the angle looks a bit steep. The in-focus twig pointing at the bird is a little distracting. A little more DOF might have gotten the tail in focus (don't be afraid to use ISO 800 on the Mark III). But you've got good sharpness and pretty colors. Thanks for posting!

    Ken,
A very nice image and ditto the above.
I do stand to be corrected but I think the ID is unfortunately not correct. This is a European roller. The racket tailed roller has a very prominent white eye brow (very similar to lilac breasted)

The problem was the bird was overhead, and this was the best I could do I have some other shots taken at wider angle with another lens.

As to the identification I am no expert it is what our guide said it was and also other birdwatchers have confirmed. That's the fascination with birds I suppose.

    Hi Ken,
I'm not that bothered by the upward view. The eye and beak do look a bit soft on my monitor.............and if ethically you are not against removing it........the little branch protruding into the frame should IMO go.
