One of the stops on my Peru tour was to visit an incredible place in lowland Amazonia where several species of parrots and macaws come to eat clay each day. They need to do this to help them digest the toxic seeds and fruits that they eat.
Although the highlight tends to be the 100 or so Red-and-Green Macaws that come down, there are also some other beautiful species like this Blue-headed Parrot.
As a side note - I am loving this new 600mm! :-)

Congratulations on the new 600 II - I love mine too, awesome for birds.
And congratulations on this absolutely fantastic image. Can't be much better. Great wing pose, fantastic colors and light and the slight head turn is perfect.
BTW, I love your book about tropical photography - simply awesome.
Unfortunately I may to to Norway and Yellowstone next year :-)
Sweeeet. Perfect flight pose with wings up all the way. Excellent light and killer sharpness. Bg is great too. I'd move the bird just a tad more into the frame.
Beautiful vibrant image of a spectacular bird in spectacular light. Thanks for sharing. I only wish you'd post them larger. The comp works OK for me, but I might have been tempted to tone down the brightness of the RH side just a bit to de-emphasize it.
Hi Glenn,
Lovely colors and lighting on this one. Nice to see that you have joined the ranks of the 600 IS 2 owners. I almost kept my 500mm and just traded up to the 1DX. Really glad now that I made that extra stretch to get the bigger optics instead. I swear that the 600 is sharper with the 1.4x on than my 500 was without an extender. Can't wait for raptor season to get in full swing. Those short ears won't stand a chance!
