This was my first serious attempt at water drop photography.

After I set my "rig" up, I immediately wanted to try something I had not seen before.
So here is my first attempt.

This is a water drop collision into soapy water. Red food coloring used lightly in catch water and very heavily in drop water.
Flashes were fired through the clear plastic catch water pan and under the soap bubbles.

This technique made the water glow and few specular highlights to clean up later!!

Kinda of reminds me of lava.

    It's a start.

James, this is beautiful. At first I thought lava, but I'm thinking red hot glass that's fractured. I love all the tones of red.

I think it's a CME (coronal mass ejection) from the sun! Awesome detail!! Are you using a motion trigger, or just the shotgun approach?

If this is your START, where the heck are you planning to go from here!!? Wherever, keep posting the journey.

Great effects, James. I really like the glow created by the flash and the great range of colors. Can't wait to see more of your efforts.

James, my first thought was a close-up of the planet Jupiter. Love the fiery red color and bubbly surface.

Very cool. I would love to see a picture of the set-up.

    Off the charts.....
Amazing look to this, lava, cracked ice, molten glass, you name it.
    Very well done.

Awesome! Love the color, the texture of the bubbles, the rising cone...!! Not sure if the dark red drop is just a bit too dark with the black edge?
