    Hi Jonathan,
I really like the walking pose and your low POV.
I like the sand with the little puddles of water but find some of the vegetation quite unattractive, the clump behind the bird in particular.
I hope you don't mind but I tweaked it a bit by cropping, dodging the dark blob above the bird and cloned out the dark area in front of the bill as well as the spike in the blob between the legs and the stuff behind the bird.
This was a very quick and dirty edit and you can do much better with the RAW. It needs to be sharpened of course. My repost is just to give you an idea of crop and evicting the vegetation.

Nice shot of this plover stepping out. Detail and exposure look good and I like the BG. I think Gail's repost is on the right track and removing the distractions looks better. Nice shot.

Thanks Gail & David, I appreciate your comments. I like the cleaned up version, I think many of the folks on this side of the pond see images a little differently. Whilst I like the clean version it looks a little too clean to me - almost sterile whereas the original looks more realistic, i think we accept "imperfections" as it were. Whilst I don't disapprove of cleaning up images in general I sometimes think things are often left as nature intended. I have to admit though I am not consistent in this approach!

I like the pose and the overall colors, Jon.
While the "imperfections" don't bug me, I'd definitely move the bird off-center to the left a bit more.
