I left the composition loose with lots of space to evoke the feeling of a little bird in a miserable, harsh environment. I could make it a bit tighter and would appreciate your thoughts.
PP: Converted in DPP, crop of 20% ( 80% FF) levels, small boost in saturation, reduced magenta cast,DE to bird at 3% and USM to JPEG. Cloned out a stray branch in RLC.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

I think that the loose comp is perfect. Nice moody image, well done.

Beautiful small-in-frame image. Nice pose and artistic comp. I'd leave it just as is. The rain adds to it.

Hi Gail, OH, I like this lots. As I opened this, I could just feel the harshness of the weather as you described, and captured perfectly. I like the placement, and all the surrounding space you left. The colours of the wagtail pop nicely against the rainy BG. Well captured.

    Gail,

Greetings. Oh, I think up from the bottom to just below the first branch and in from the right proportionally would work, too, but not a necessary thing. The environment is great especially with the rain.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

    Excellent.
This is the bird photography I enjoy these days.
I am over the large bird in the frame in flight or whatever....
Nice perch, great job with the rain (very hard to do right).

Beautiful Image Gail, Evokes the sense of the harsh conditions. (a little darker feel would have done that even more so. but its just me). I like it as presented. What time of the day was it?

I like this composition and the rain really adds so much.

I love this kind of rainy shots, it gives the images some life and reality, showing that living in the wild is not always easy.

The colors of the Wagtail and its detail really stand out nicely.

Normally I dont love most of the shots I see in the rain, I think that there usually isnt enought rain drops to make it look really rainy. This one I like, lots of rain coming down sideways which puts me right in the scene.
Nice looking subject, perch and a smooth BG make for a good looking rainy day shot. Well done Gail

Ooh this works really well...I love inclement weather images and this one is shows me exactly why. Perfect HA on the subject, and I like the amount of rain drops visible. I like the size of the bird in the comp, but I think it could go a bit higher in the frame. I'd also be inclined to lighten the reflection in the eye a tad more. All else is super nice.
