D4 600vr 1/640 at F6.3 ISO400. Hi everyone, haven't posted here in a long while unfortunately. I have just got back from a trip into Botswana, will be posting a few shots from my recent trip The title should read Nxai Pan.

    Hi Vivaldo,

nice boy. For me the image is overall to yellow/warm. I might would pull the yellow back or do another WB to check the image! Apply another round of Mid-tone contrast, that brings you back a tad of the yellow in the lion itself and not overall global! Just my thoughts on your image.
    Have a great day

Nice male here in good light. Nxai is high on my to-visit list!
Anette voiced my initial thoughts perfectly
Could also stand some tweak in levels and curves as it seems the exposure/histogram isn't utilised to the full?

Glad to have you back, Viv!

Hi Vivaldo - Great to see you back posting. Love the pose with the tongue out, intense look and curved tail. My initial reaction was exactly the same as Anette's and Morkel's so it would be worth taking a look.

Here is another version with less yellow and a little more contrast, hope this one works better.

Very good picture. Nice posé, and I always like them by the water. I think repost is better. I would like to see more habitat. Is this cropped?

This is a great portrait of a male lion in good light. Not sure what he was doing with that pose, but you got the mane, the eye, the tongue sticking out, and the BG to go with it. The RP has less Yellow and is better for me. Well done. Loi

Lovely shot! He stands out from the BG much better in the RP. Warm light is so nice but it can go too far and cause a color cast that puts a sort of fog over the image.

Hi Vivaldo, I would just add a Channel/Curves adjustment to expand the mid tone, add a selective colour adjustment in the blacks, apply to the Lion only then a hint more USM, just brings up more detail/form & definition in the body. Great light, love the warm colours, perfect shooting conditions, nice one.

    Hi Vivaldo, more importantly WDYT?

Interesting, on reflection the BKG is slightly different now, what was the reason based on your OP/RP, did you adjust the yellows? There are two reasons I changed it, the first IMHO was, it was way off in Levels, but no one picked it up, the white needed bring up to a point just before it clips, plus based on the OP I was curious to see what happens when you find a key point to register the RGB levels. Once I did that I just laid one over the other and painted the environment back in at a 30% opacity. It's probably was off what the conditions were truly like though I was just curious. I prefer the colour & tone of you latest RP for the Lion compared to the previous ones, likewise the definition & contours are more in keeping with what I would like to see, but you a are working from the RAW I can' remember Vivaldo, do you like to use 'Lab workings' as this might have been why I couldn't get the tweaks quite right without pulling into LR for the colour of the Lion? Not sure if this helps or not.

Nice to have you back posting in wildlife too, trust all is good?

    Cheers

Hi Steve, it good to be back. We haven't visited any parks recently, it normally happens when you do to much of it and want a break Nxai pan in Botswana was great, had a few good sighting of lions. I hope to visit some other parks in the next year. I like your version, works great, love the extra pop. However prefer my BG colours, looks like yours are slightly more cool towards blue? Your memory Steve is excellent Yes I like using Lab colour for adding saturation. I am normally heavy handed when adding saturation, so it is good to know when it doesn't work Thanks for help Vivaldo

    Like an Elephant Vivaldo.

More Yellow on BG, not sure? Could be slight but cannot recall adding more yellow to the BG.
No, I just wondered if you had adjusted anything in relation to other replies above. Unfortunately the settings from an imported web image do not translate to a RAW, so any setting I would have will not work sadly on your image which is rather annoying. Lab works, but I find it all comes down to the actual image itself, in fact you set my mind thinking on how you apply it, but you never forget things after a few minutes of thinking.

Your welcome, good to have you back on board I hope.

Nice image with great detail. Would like a little more space on LHS. Think all the technical stuff has been discussed but I like #6 best of all, perhaps with a little more contrast.

Catching up a little late here, but great pose captured and I like your last RP, which aptly deals with the warmth issue IMO.

I still remember one of your images from Botswana with a herd of elephants with their trunks raised sniffing out water. Had a similar experience myself in Etosha last year....just something so special about the "sniffing elephants"
