    Default Crab for dinner

I'm amazed that there are any crabs left in our waters between the herons and the gulls. When lying prone and still, they must think I am a log and often come to the edge of, or within, my minimum focusing distance. When they do, I think Portrait!

Thank you for your kind words. No blind, just wearing waders and lying flat in shallow water.

IQ is terrific and I very much like the crop you chose. Love the open bill with the crab. Great 2 toned BG as well.
It may be my monitor but I see a hint of magenta in the feathers. Would you agree? Easy fix in any case.
Love the 1DX and the ISO you were shooting at. You also got great DOF for being at F4 considering the heron is so close.

Gail, You are 100% correct about the magenta. How's this? Yes, dof was beginning to fall off...you can see it on the top of his head. The only keepers from this series were when he (or she?) was perfectly parallel to my sensor.

Great portrait Grace with killer feather detail. Awesome that you were able to get this close. The crab looks great as its tucked up ready to go down the hatch. The repost looks great color wise. Well done

Fabulous portrait, Grace. Amazing detail and DOF at such low light. Repost really helps.

nicely done, love the detail, and especially the crab, it just adds. I'm surprised you haven't been bitten by one of those crabs, how big are these little guys??

for some reason for me I think taking just the slightest bit off the right side would somehow enhance the angle of the birds neck.

    love the BG

Hi Grace, a bit late, but you already have all the accolades above. Superb detail, and very well captured.
