I planted my Cosmos late, but they are giving me much pleasure now. :-)
    Taken with a 105mm macro, f3.3.
Added "Happy" texture by Shadowhouse Creations .
I used the basic adjustments in Adobe Elements 10, plus Coler Effex Pro and Viveza.

Anita, I'd love to see your garden. I've never had much success with cosmos but a friend gave me a gigantic brilliant orange variety that grows about 8 ft. tall and my garden is ablaze at the moment. I prefer the colors like yours but I was just happy to have any kind grow. Your flower images are always so beautiful in their simplicity and this one is no exception. I like the gradations of color and the subtle texture. Did the blue come from the texture or other plants in your garden?

Wow! I can't believe the colors in this image. It's like a pastel rainbow! I love the soft focus too. Very nice work!

Yes, gorgeous!! I love the colors and the OOF echo. It's not easy to make bold colors work with a subtle image but you did it here.

I don't manage to grow flowers out here in the county -- we have deer -- but in town we have the Luther Burbank house and his home garden, well preserved by docents. I always head straight for the Cosmos. It has such a simple elegance.

    Anita,
I love your use of pin point selective focus!
The composition and use of pinks and oranges are also winners.

I am undecided about the blue, maybe it's my ADD but I find it to be a slight distraction.

I'd say this is accurate for your texture, it is definitely just a very overall happy feeling image.

Love the main focal point and surrounding colors. Nice job.

Thanks, Cheryl. The blue came mostly from the texture. In the original image, that area was pale grey--an overcast sky.

Love the pale yellow and the more primary yellow at the center of the flower Anita. Just wish for a little more definition between the FG and BG flower.

Thanks. Do you mean you wish they were not overlapping each other?

No, I just mean more edge delineation on the FG flower if that is possible. I don't mind them touching, but think the image would be stronger if there were more separation between the two.

I think it's going in the right direction, but I see what looks like some unevenness in the work on the petals. Did you do it by cloning? For me, a Wacom tablet is the way to go for doing any kind of brush work.

I pulled the two into PS to view them as layers so I could switch back and forth to better see how the two versions compare, and I see that both have the profile embedded as AdobeRGB. It is "tagged", meaning a browser can see what it is, but for most browsers to display an image as correctly as possible, its better to do the step of Convert to Profile before you make the JPEG. I remember that you use PS Elements and don't know how it's done there. If you need to know, someone here can probably give you the steps. It's very easy.

What I did is that on the last layer I brushed away some of the smoothing I'd done on that layer, which had made the front petal lighter. I keep forgetting to change my images to sRGB. You are the one who patiently helped me figure out how to do that.
I have never used a Wacom tablet. I bought a small used one, but it doesn't have the stylus and I've yet to buy one.

Here is the image in sRGB. I've written a post-it note to remind myself to change the color profile.

All this color management stuff is enough to drive us all nuts! But I wouldn't go back to slides for anything.

Be sure you get the stylus that matches the tablet -- some may be interchangeable but not all are. And you'll need to download and install the driver for that model of tablet. It will let you change some parameters if you want to but the defaults are generally fine, especially to start out.

I use the Wacom for everything, word processing, spreadsheets, everything. Once in a while I'll grab the mosue for the scroll wheel, that's all.
