    Default Cheetah Yawning....

    Attached Images Attached Images

This Cheetah had just killed a Tommy and was all tired I guess, he decided to stretch and yawn in front of us displaying his fine set of weaponry ! Light was getting low and I did not have enough time to swap my 7D for the 5D3.....due to low light the colors were not as warm as I would have liked.

Sanjeeve, love the pose and the red tongue. I think the image has a magenta cast and a little flat. The cheetah color should be more yellow I think. Loi

Hi Sanjeev, not sure about the magenta cast, but I do think overall it looks quite contrasty, blacks looks a bit hefty? Nice to see a different behavioural aspect to this species. Good call on the crop too.

Good pose and crop here Sanjeev. I agree with Steve, looks a bit gritty and "sooty" and also very flat in terms of colour and tonal contrast.
Would like to work on the RAW file for you - give you some options (especially with the 7D files)...you can dropbox it to me.

Morkel, this looks much better, nice warm colours, more detail than my OP. may I know how you processed it? Did you use DPP or ACR?

Morkel's RP is much much better. Now you can see colors and details on the cat. I'd try to warm it up may be a touch more Yellow, but this is personal. Loi

Hi Sanjeev, you see, you can nail the shot no problem, you just need to sharpen up your processing which is coming along nicely, it just needs a little more honing. Really like the shot, appreciate the time Morkel as it illustrates that Sanjeev has really come a long way and is capturing some lovely images now, great work.

Pleasure, Sanjeev. I opened it up directly in CS5 using ACR. In ACR I did some slight adjustments to get the historgram nicely balanced, add some contrast, then my standard masked input sharpening (25 strength and masked to about 80 to amend only the cheetah edges).

In CS5 I then did a bit of work which included toning down brightest brights through a luminosity mask, adding local contrast enhancement and some Nik Tonal Contrast to the cheetah, dodging the blacks on the face to open them up some, adding some more yellow and red to the cheetah to make it stand out from the grass more. Finally sharpening to taste, might have gone one round of sharpening too many on the cheetah. I also burned the midtones on the grass all around the cat for more tonal separation, and burned the shadow on the cheetah coat a bit for punch.
