    Hi Everyone,

Took this image during the summer when the female barred owl was fishing for crayfish for the owlets. Seen here peering up at me from the creek bed through some ferns.

    Stats: Canon EOS-1 D Mark 4, 600mm F/4 IS II, 1/160sec at F/4, ISO400

    Thanks for your comments,

    Steve

Hello Steve! I could not help looking at this post, just caught my eye!

Great perspective and what pose from this lovely owl! Sharp where it needs be and I love the colours. I also love the detail on the feathers around the eyes. Nice crop, thoughtful processing-very well done!!!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Hi Gabriela,
Thanks for your kind comments. We are lucky that this happens most every summer here in Nanaimo B.C. at one of our local parks. I didn't realize until a few years ago that a lot of owls are also great fishermen.

Check out this image above of the female owl carrying a crayfish to the owlets.

Steve, I've rarely seen an image where there are elements in front of the bird and it works, this being a fine exception. I'd crop from the left side and top so that all we see in the frame is owl and fern (no edges). Really super well done.

This one works! Very unusual and out of the box.
I think Grace's crop idea is excellent. I also love the flight shot.

What a surprise! Has to be one of the most unique owl images I've ever seen.... Incredibly well done! That one eye peeking out and the other a bit hidden by the fern is fantastic! (Love the in-flight too!)

Great image. The re-crop improves it.

Yes! Perfect, for me! Now I wonder about just a little more detail in the darker areas of the face, behind the fern. (Just a little.)
