    Default Autumn Loon

New Hampshire loons are getting ready to leave the ponds soon for the short trip to the coast. Captured this morning,
    Nikon D7100 with 80-400 at 400mm. 1/800 5.6 at 640 iso.

    Allan:

Excellent detail, exposure, and a great eye. Always enjoy the loons in all their clothes!

In general I would prefer a little more room, esp. below. Do you have anymore canvas?

    Cheers

Thanks for the comments. I wanted to get portraits before the loons leave the pond.

Randy - no canvas on bottom. Generally, I try to have water below the loon but I wanted this one about as tight as I could get.

Awesome portrait Allan. Love the detail and image quality. Would be great to see a little more of the bottom of the bird (if available). Great shot and tfs.

I like the grizzled look here, always interesting to see molting patterns. I'm OK with the tight crop. It's just the bright blue streak touching the neck that pulls my eye though.

    This is really nice Allan.
The feather detail is impressive and I like the "old man beard" look.
Very nice portrait. I wonder if you could reduce the brightness of the band of blue water that cuts through the neck?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will work on that band. I will keep the crop as it is.
