    Default Question on stabilization mode

In "The Art of Bird Photography II" (page 461 - item 7) Artie mentions the IS in Canon's 4 super-telephotos should be set to Mode 2 when used on a tripod. In fact, Artie states Mode 2 should always be used except when shooting a static object from a moving car (with a little humor added).

My question: Would the same logic apply to the 100-400 - or does the 100-400 have a completely different IS system??

    Comments appreciated - dave b.

Different IS system David. The 1-4 was the first "L" lens to use IS and has not been updated.

From what i have read, using the stabilization modes with a tripod and a 100-400 will actually damage the lense.
