Hi Peter - A lovely capture. I like the mood, colors and especially the thrown up dust very much. The opposite HA of the 2 front elles is great. I suspect this is a FF on the horizontal, but I would like so more space on the LHS evan more. An immage I greatly enjoyed. TFS

Good to see you posting some recent stuff, Peter...
I love the tone of these Etosha giants. Good puff of dust and line of ele's too.
Good sharpness for what looks to be harsh late-morning midday light. I would consider dropping the reds in the bush behind the ele's? It vies for my attention somewhat...

Nice capture and interesting scene. I too noticed the red cast in the trees behind the animals. Maybe natural, but it did catch my attention. I wondered if a the foreground might not be so in-your-face if it were a little darker. And, a darker foreground would also draw ones attention to the dust on the elephants. To continue on the darkening idea, darkening the background above the animals might also focus ones attention more on the subject.

Hi Peter - I like the flying dust and the line of eles. I just wish for more dof and a little more room below and on the lhs. I too noticed the cast.

Super shot Peter. Love the cluster of elephants and the dust shower.
The light looks very harsh an this does show a bit in the contrast and colours. Did you add saturation or Hue to compensate?

Good day Mr D, nice to see you posting, I trust this is not a one off, we could do with you around the place, for many reasons.

Love the depth of contrast on this one, it has a real punch to it. I also like the plumes/clouds of dust. I do get the impression you have pushed the colours a tad to create the look & feel, however I'm struggling at why you choose f/4, you had the SS & ISO. Peter we have know each other long enough, but I really do feel adding some intro to the image, with a rational, your thinking & vision with regard to your images would really help bolster the Wildlife Forum and your postings, as you do bring a segment that I feel we do miss and your contributions enlightening at times. I won't bring up the clarity/sharpening question, I thrown the towel in on that one, LOL, you've beaten me Sir.

I think we have a few unanswered emails pending?

Hopefully this won't be the last for a while.

    TFS

Very dynamic image, love the dust flying and the elephant formation. I first saw this image on my lap top, so didn't want to comment. Now I'm back to my office and still see the FG very bright and the image a bit contrasty. I understand the light was hash, so that was just that time of day. I wonder if anyone seeing the image too bright? Loi

    Hi Peter,

great image, great dust for sure. Swallowed that one as well. Had it also all over me... well my cloth
I like it as it is. I think the blue cast adds a bit, but have not see it without. That is a taste thing I guess.

    have a great weekend

    Ciao

    Hi Steve
I understand your POV and will endeavor to give an intro and explain my thinking.
Just a couple of points about me and my work. I photograph very much from the heart and edit the same way .. I don't work to a formula with my editing , I feel my way through the image until it expresses the way I felt taking the image.

With regard to comments about colour or over exposure I take at face value as I have no idea on the devices people are using to view the image and if they have been calibrated and I don't want my images to be an exact replicate what I captured . I want it to be more!

Unfortunately sometimes I find that some photographers on forums get caught up too much on the technicals and forget the creativity side of the image. And produce technical perfect images but are often sterile creatively.
So I try and find a balance in my work with the technicals and creativity . It's hard to do and I am not always successful.

The f4 ... Was done for a couple of reasons ... I normally shoot between f6.7/F8 with my 600mm as I find that's the sweet spot!
I photographed this herd for about twenty mins .... Driving and shooting from my car window ... I managed to get right in front of the herd and let them walk to me ... Unfortunately there were other photographers in vehicles behind the herd . So I was trying to limit the DOF so they would not ruin my BKG to much. Sometimes I shoot at F4 just to try and single out a subject...

Hope this helps and makes up for my lack of intro ....

Interesting look to this one. To me it has the look of an old black and white photo that has been colorized, similar to what they do with WWII footage. I like it.
