Default Birding in the USA for the first time

    Hi everyone,

Wonder if you could help me please ....

I am from South Africa and a keen birder. I am going to be in the USA for the first time ever (YAY !!) this November and want to try maximize my Life List for North America - hahaha ... currently = 0.

I would also love to grab some good photos of some birds (if I can)

Could you please recommend some places for me to try - remember even the common is uncommon to me - and I know it will be winter so no migrants but it's all that I have

I will be in Houston from 08-19 November (will be busy with work activities to some degree though)

    Thanks in advance ....

ALSO : Would it be worth my while to drag my 300 f2.8 along with me or should I just use my wife's 100-400 ?

    Victor,

You will be in a good place at the wrong time

South Texas has good stuff year round and is about 6 hours from Houston by car. Brazos Bend State Park is pretty close to Houston and is always worth a trip.

Shoot me a PM if you want to talk more about Texas.
