    Default Australian Pelican

    Attached Images Attached Images

We had a too short week in Port MacQuarie, NSW earlier this year and enjoyed the birds as usual. A flock of Pelicans would move between different boat ramps depending on where fish were being cleaned and gave some flight shot opportunities in the evening light.

Tony, beautiful flight of a pelican. Love the colors and details of the eye and wings. The white looks just a bit hot on my monitor. Loi

Thanks Loi. I must remember to revisit the histogram after converting to sRGB for web.

Nice flight shot in pleasant light, Tony.
Excellent detail and perfect shooting angle. I would leave out the very top brown part of the canvas.

The IQ on this image is excellent.
I love the colors and the light.
The wing position is excellent as well with the wing tips just grazing the water,

Wonderful light, flight position, crisp detail. Trying a browser crop, I agree with Karl about the top edge. A few little spots are pushing 250 after conversion; easy fix. Handsome image.

Hi Tony, you have absolutely nailed this - great wing position, tack sharp, and I really like the warm colours from the late light. I also like the hint of gold on the water BG in the URC. Well captured.

This is a killer frame, Tony. Love the colors, comp, details in those feathers. May I inquire about why you were shooting at 1/8000 of a second? I ask b/c I so rarely find myself shooting at that high a speed.

Hi Marina, That's the same question I had for myself when I pulled the exposure details from the EXIF!
This was just as the sun was setting so rapid light loss. The BG was pretty clean and even so Aperture priority and Matrix -0.3 was giving a safe exposure with the whites. ISO was my variable to keep SS up for flight shots and I should have started at 400 for a couple of minutes before pushing it up to 800

Well done Tony on this image. I like the birds position and the fact the whole bird including the wings are pin sharp.
