Gray Jays are always the best birds seen, fed and photographed up at Algonquin.
The shooting angle is not the best to say the least but I like the pose and background.
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Karl, killer inflight pose, and just love that perfect fanned tail. Yep, you couldnt have chosen a better BG either. Although with a ss of 1/2000, the head seems it is showing a bit of motion blur. Your point of focus looks like it was on the tail.

    Karl,

I can't even imagine how tough it would be to get one of these guys in the frame - let alone with a nice fanned tail and gorgeous backdrop.

You mentioned that the shooting angle is not the best, and Stuart pointed out the softness in the head. Keep attempting these shots, I have a feeling you'll be coming back with a great one!

Killer background. Your self assessment, and Stuart's observation, well noted. Love the fanned tail.

You've got a great bg and yous exposure looks spot on.
Love the fanned tail. The bird is angled away and head softness mentioned.
Small birds in flight are so challenging, but loads of fun and addictive to try. No doubt, you'll nail a shot soon.

Thanks Miguel, thank you all. Unfortunately it won't come any earlier than January when I usually go up again if they report good birds from there.
    It's a long drive.

Cool looking subject and a neat over the shoulder shot. I like the BG and the light looks good on the bird.
Yes, the birds head looks a bit soft, but I think you can get it looking better by cleaning up the elongated catch light, then selecting just the head and sharpening it again. Nice work Karl

Thanks David, good advice on the eye and head sharpening.

The repost is a cracker well done, love the pose and the fine detail. If I had to find a criticism I would say the right wing would have been better sharp and the left wing slightly soft as opposed to vice versa. Having said that it does convey a sense of action - I like the shot as it is!
