Very nice sharpness and detail for a large crop, and great detail in the grays. I wonder if the darker shadows on the perch and tail could be brought up just a little?

I'd be interested to know your unconventional prep for web -- sharpening techniques??

Hi Michael - Great details on the bird and particularly in the greys for a large crop. I like the pose and open bill ( ? in song) adds.

    DIane, Hennie,

    Thanks much for the comments.

    Diane,

Oh, a little experimentation with uprezing as a step in processing large crops. Here I uprezed (200% width & height, preserve details with PS image size) after nr, then detailed/sharpened using larger radii than for the original size. NR then uprez important steps as uprezing makes NR tools ineffective.

Discovered along the way that it is better to use PS to first reduce original 16-bit tiff to BPN-sized 8-bit tiff (bicubic sharper) then to jpeg. Using LR to go directly from uprezed 16-bit tiff to BPN-sized jpeg lost a fair amount of fine detail. Used LR for OP.

Anyway, not trying to convince anybody about using this... but I'm kinda happy with it.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Nice pose, sharpness and detail in the bird. Love the open beak. The perch is OK but not the best.
