An oldie but goodie. I was browsing through some files from 2008 when I came across this image of two immature bald eagles. I remembered that I had tried and tried working with with this image in Photoshop back then but was never satisfied with the result, particularly dealing with the noise at ISO 1000. Now with more experience and some help from Norm, I think I've got a reasonable image. I've always liked the action although IQ isn't quite what I'd like it to be.

This was taken at Conowingo Dam on a day when there was lots of action in early Nov. These two immature eagles were fighting over a fish. As usually happens, the fish ended up back in the river, but the youngster just had to try to take it away from the other. The action at Conowingo this year should begin in another month or so. I can't wait!

Nikon D300 with Nikkor 80-400 @400, hand held, f/8.0, 1/2000 s, ISO 1000, EC +0.67. Post processed in PS6 with usual adjustments and noise reduction in Topaz DeNoise.

    Comments welcome.

Great action. I like the fish, the wing pose of the birds and the lower bird looking up.
It shows that it makes sense to keep old files that have some potential.

Hi Linda - I like the interaction and comp. The lower eagle's HA is great. good job on the Nr, none visible on my monitor!

This is great, Linda. It is a most interesting shot, well captured. And it provides an important example of bird behavior. Well done!
