    Nice composition and early light. The head at least looks like it could use another round of USM as it's a bit soft. I like side lighting in some instances. I think that for this one it would have worked better if the bird was turned more to his left......leaving more of the bird lit thus less in shadow. I'm wondering if there might be a bit too much of the bird in shadow for this one.

    The head turn would have helped Bill. The bird is too deep with its head in this position. Stopping down would have helped get everything in focus; it looks like you had plenty of room with 1/4000 of shutter speed.
