The spectacular drakes of this species seem to get all the attention, but the females are attractive in their own right, IMO, albeit in a much more subtle way. And, this one is wearing a necklace. :) Taken from a blind on a woodland pond a few days ago. These birds are not tame here like they are at Vierra Wetlands. 40D, 500 f/4 + 1.4X, 1/160, f/5.6, ISO 400. Comments are welcome.

Very elegant, and yes the hens are quite lovely. Adding some black to the neutrals and the blacks (in Selectvie Color) would give this more punch without increasing the contrast.

I like the low angle and the composition. You did a fine job capturing the subtle beauty of this merganser. I'm an instant fan of adding black to the blacks and neutrals with a Selective Color Adj layer. Adds a nice bit of pop!

My first response was a vocalised "wow" in an empty room! The composition, clarity and sharpness, lighting, and BG water are perfect- the eye as well.

    HI Steve,

Lovely pose and head angle. You also did an excellent job with the low angle. I would add more colors to this image!

Bob, the bird was diving in the shallow pond and happened to come up with the plant stem draped around her shoulders. :)
