Hi Sanjeev, I really, really do like this, as it gives great placement to the location, good choice in lens and great timing, I'm pleased that you waited for the lion to rest his front paws on the old tree to survey his territory, good planning.

I'm not sure if, by moving forward so you were shooting more, behind you, you may have avoided the tree rising out of neck, not ideal IMHO, but not much you could have done. Techs looks good and nice DOF. I pulled the image into LR and managed to get a mid grey point very close to 50/50/50 which I think helped to balance the colours overall, not so yellow? Also by adding a little more exposure (darkened) the lion it brought out a bit more form and then added a graduate filter to the sky and adjusted the exp, highlights & clarity, it just brought out a bit more colour, something I know Loi wanted to achieve with his elephant images.

What I might suggest is, after you process an image, just let it sit there for a few hours, don't look at it, then view it agin after about say four hours or perhaps more, I think it may help you, as you can then see it with a fresh pair of eyes. You may then pick up a few things we may see and make any necessary adjustments. Just a thought.

    Hope it helps, nice one.

Hi Sanjeev - I had pulled your image into CS apparently at the same time Steve was working his magic. Our thoughts are largely the same but we might have gone about achieving them a little different. My suggestion was to do a luminosity mask at about 30% to the overall image and then to give the lion a bit more pop/separation from the bg.

I really like the comp and wide view here. It definitely gives the feel of a king surveying his kingdom and the feet up on the tree enhances that feeling. Well seen and captured.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Sanjeev,
a very evocative shot of a young male lion in his environment.
The pose with the paws on the fallen tree is great.
Composition wise I would have liked the shot to be from a position a bit to our right as we view it. Ideally to include more of the view that the lion is surveying. I do also find the raised branches of the dead tree on the left a bit obtrusive. But still a neat shot.

Hi Sanjeev - I too like this a lot and it is a typical MM scene with all the Balanites aegyptica trees that often typically offer shade for animals during the hotter parts of the day. Steve's rp has emphasised what could improve your image. I agree that the tree behind it is a bit out of place but also know that it is not always possible to get your guide / driver guide to put you in a better position especially if one is sharing a vehicle with others. Great shot TFS

Agree with the above comments, a fine habitat image Sanjeev of this young adult, Steve's RP has done it justice, but I would have gone just a tad warmer.

I like your OP colour and I think it doesn't look out of place. Otherwise agree with all other comments, including that I would like to see more of his view and also to cut out some of the trees on the lhs. Nevertheless it's a lovely image and you couldn't have done better with the posiition you were in.
