Caught this one as he was grazing on yucca blooms. Wish I had put on the zoom instead to get more room at the bottom but I had prepositioned myself in anticipation of where he might appear from the trees in the BG and wanted to see how tolerant he would be of my presence before moving around to change lenses. 7D, 400DO, f7.1, 1/320s, ISO 640, monopod. full frame.

Hi Steve, I agree with your own self assessment, having more room below would have been ideal, but we make a choice and sometimes it doesn't quite work out, saying that, I love the slight twisted/angled neck indicating a curious look of intrigue by the buck. I also like the 'velvet' coated antlers too, you almost want to reach out and touch them, there are that good Not sure about the light bit of foliage in the centre of the antler V, rather than cloning, just knocking it back just reduces it's prominence IMHO. Adding an overall 'mid tone' to the image just also brings out a bit more depth to the whole image.

    Look forward to more.

Hi Steve - I also agree with your self-assessment about the space below but I really like the pose, eye contact and excellent detail.

Hi Steve - All the techs covered by the experts. Lovely tack sharp image with amazing IQ and details. Ditto on Steve's comment about the antlers.

Missed this! Quite like the tight framing and the soft light, coupled with the anticipation of the snack going to be devoured...
Agree with toning down the light foliage between the antlers here.
