I'm off to the Masai Mara for some Great Migration magic with my guests...see you all in October .

This large elephant bull was in musth, and shook his head indignantly at us, with the dust flying. Capturing this moment at VERY close range and a killer low angle was made possible by the underground bunker I was in (captured in Etosha, Namibia).

Crikey buddy! I don't think this image does justice to the true perspective you must have had of this huge beast. Were the bunkers built to view the elephants or old war bunkers?

Not sure if I would drop the shadow a touch on the inside of the hind leg and belly ?

Man this and then the Mara? You are spoilt my friend.

    Safe travels

Hi Morkel, the low profile of the bunker really provides a superb viewing aspect, wish they had some in the Mara enjoy.

    HI Morkel ,
love those shots taken from that "secret bunker", need to try to get there one day............... with a little help from my unknown friend so far.

Like the composition like wise the colors, the flying dust is great bonus. The two elephants in the RHC are a nice touch.

The tonality in the elephant looks a bit thin, should look a tad richer in tone , both highlights and specially shadows, thinking about the light situation the shadows should look deeper and denser for me.
The sky looks a bit noisy, had a look into the red channel , so i would run some NR on this Channel, just the sky.

    Still good to look at.

Have fun and success in the Mara

    TFS Andreas

Hi Morkel - the low pov and angle of shooting from the bunker really lets one appreciate the size of this bull. The flying dust adds to it. I agree with Andreas that it seems a little thin and would be interested in seeing a version with his suggested tweaks. Have a great time in the Mara.

    TFS,
    Rachel

I love all your images from the bunker that gives such a unique point of view! Great additional details with the flying dust and the 2 elephants in the bkgd.

Spectacularly good. I like the low angle. The Elephant looks fantastic. I also like the other Elephants in the background.

Another shot with a great perspective. Really emphasizes the size and power of these animals. Good luck with your trip.

Stunning image - I think it needs more contrast. Bright shadows suggests they've been lifted and perhaps just a little too much. I love the two other dwarfed eles in the LR and I wonder if there's a little more space on the rhs to give the two small eles some more room? Just a half centimetre?

    Have fun in the mara.
