    Default Rhino - Scareface

Rhino at sundown. We hope he is still alive at the Sabi Sands area.

Advice for improvements always appreciated. (perhaps noise removal?)

Hi Marlies - always nice to see a rhino image but unfortunately this isn't really working for me as captured. I would have preferred it if you included the bottom of the mouth and more room above. You don't say what focal length this was shot at but perhaps you could have zoomed out wider in the field. I also feel you needed a bit more dof to have the entire horn in focus but also recognize that with the 50D you probably could not go much higher with the ISO so it may have been a trade off. As processed there is a heavy blue cast in the shadows. Let us know if you need tips on how to remove it.

It would be great if you would comment on other people's images. It's one of the best ways to learn and also helps create a sense of community. It doesn't have to be in depth or technical, just tell us what you like or don't like. The recommendation is that you post comments on at least 5 other images each time you post an image.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Marlies, I like the textures you've captured on the rhino's face and the fact that you have got both eye contact and some colour in the eye.
I also like the frontal viewpoint. Unfortunately though, too much of the head is missing. I'd like to see the ears and the bottom lip.
Do you have other shots from your sighting that show a bit more?

    Hi Marlies,
the image is not working as presented, because it is too tight , BG too busy, heavy color cast in the shadows, blacks look almost choked in parts.Noise visible in the BG.
A lot of `negative`feedback, but not meant bad, just to show my observations.

Like the texture in the HL and MT.

I agree about the strong blue/cyan cast in the shadows. The crop/composition also isn't really ideal for me. Have you considered cropping much tighter to focus on the scar and textures?
