This is outstanding! Love the symmetrical way the whiskers curl towards the tusks. The water droplets are a fabulous detail! Very nice diffused lighting that highlights all those pink scars. I am sooooo envious !! Walrus are among my top desires.

Wonderful sharp image, I think it shows well the 300mm and 2x works great even on a crop censor ( same lens I have with a 60D).

Thanks Nancy and Ashley for the kind comments. Ashley - I don't hesitate to use the 300 II and 2x III with either my 7D (crop sensor) or my 5D3 (full frame).

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

I'm sure he's trying to smile for this portrait, walruses just aren't very good at it. Nice detail (also love the droplets on everything) and the BG color compliments well. I liked the look of some increased contrast (using USM 25/10/0). What a great portfolio expanding trip you had.

Hello Rachel, those are some gnarly looking tusks and loving the water droplets hanging on each of them along with the majority of the whiskers. Lots of detail here but maybe lacking a little contrast in areas? RHS appears balanced in detail and depth with contrast however, LHS for me looks a little flat at the skin slopes into the corner.

Awesome species and worth the trip along.

Cheers for posting. Love these guys.

Good sharp image with lots of detail to enjoy. In particular the droplets at the end of whiskers and all those scars.
Personally I don't like the composition. I'd prefer either the walrus a bit more to the right of the frame or a vertical portrait. That's just me though and I've never even seen a walrus up close.

Hi Rachel, nice portrait of these guys.
Good overall tonality and color, in parts , as Jamie said, lacking a bit in depth, easy to fix if you wish.
    > bit more room on top , would be nice for my eyes, if you have the room.
The droplets on the tip of the tusks are a nice little touch .

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. This is ff so no more room above. I'll take a look at the left side.

    Thanks again,

very good work, Rachel. The droplets of water on the whiskers ad to the value.

You're killing me with all your shots from this trip. I would echo the need to more on top, but your decision if you want to add canvas or not. Nice shot either way.

Such quirky mugs on these guys. Solid portrait here Rachel...Jamie could be right about adding some more selective contrast for pop?
