Went to Green Cay Tuesday afternoon to get better light on two RWB nests I saw Saturday morning. Well, both nests were empty (assumed from predation). I did see these beauties hunting just before sunset. I liked the soft quality of this one; makes it look like a painting. The BG is smooth at full resolution (some blockiness from compression).

Looks good, but it seems that the too aggressive compression affected the image quality.
Any way, exposure and lighting look right on the money.
I saw two RWBB nest this morning at Green Cay, one still have 3 chicks out of 4, I am going after work to try to get some shots. On the second one the female was sitting on the nest.
Great pose, David. I love the soft light and the colors in the background. I'm guessing the image would look better if the size was near the allowed 150 KB instead of 38.5 KB, as presented.
I too was wondering if the quality was being diminished due to compression, however I know Artie posts some fairly small file sizes with always exceptional results. I am sure he will chime in at some point.
Really nice light on this, but wish there were more detail in the head.
Was there a reason you didn't stop down to F11. F8 with a 1.4 on a 100-400 at 400 is wide open and probably not giving you ideal sharpness. You would still have been at 1/1600 which would still be adequate shutter.
Yes, compression artefacts plague this image badly...also was this a heavy crop? Good head down pose and wing placement is just right. I find there is a greenish colour cast.
