Watching young skimmers learn to navigate the waves is always fun. Here's one making a good attempt. Part 2 will follow in a subsequent post.

I like the low angle, flight angle, water running over the head, IQ, setting and composition. Excellent image Grace!

I really like the veil of water over the skimmer's face and neck, and the way you've composed this, Grace. It really does give the sense of a young skimmer practicing. Looking forward to part 2....

Love the light, the waves in the BG and esp the water spray. I would take a little off of the left if it were mine.

Great action shot in interesting light. The water spry makes it dynamic.

    Grace:

Fun to see them learning. When I first glanced at the image, I thought he was standing in the water, with legs covered by the splash, but of course realized he is really flying. Very cool.

I might consider softening the brown spots in right upper corner a bit more.

    Cheers

    Grace,

A wonderful moment captured! I initially thought I'd like a little less room on top, but looking at the crop (by scrolling), I quite like your crop. I wouldn't mind seeing a version with Randy's suggestion though.

Love the splash of water around the head. Looking forward to part 2!

Randy, I wasn't sure about the brown...that's sand being churned up by the wave and I had hoped that it would give the viewer the impression of just how rough these waves are. But, it is hard to know how others will interpret your image and I appreciate your input.
Marina, I was trying to show the trough that he created with his skimming, but I see your point as it relates to composition.
Thanks to everyone for looking ... I really do appreciate your opinions. It helps me immensely.

Well timed Grace. The water running over the skimmer's face really tells the story.
Nice rich colours too. The background isn't the best but the part right behind the bird is plain enough not to spoil your subject.

Hi Grace, exquisite light, and just love the overall colours. I do like the space you have given the skimmer, but agree with Marina, with just a touch off the LHS. The 'blanket' of water over the head puts this over the top.

Nice light, and I like the way you left him smallish in the frame (emphasizes his juvie-ness, I guess). I do find the churned up sand in the wave just a bit distracting. Can't wait to see the next installment.
