This picture is from the same sighting as my last wolf picture. But here I did PP different. Changed color temp (tried to make it look natural and less blue light) and took exposure down two steps. Clarity -30. Then the usual adjustments. What do you think?

Slightly cropped, cloned some small disturbing objects, adjusted some levels, sharpen and quite a bit of noise reduction.
Hi Gregor - I don't think reducing the clarity to -30 worked here. I think that's why the wolf isn't sharp and the bg looks like it was blurred in pp. The fg tree looks sharper than the wolf. I wish the branch/tree on the diagonal was not coming out of the wolf's ear but I'm not sure how free you were to move in the field. Judging by the slow ss and the high ISO, I'm guessing that there was very little available light. You did well under tough conditions and it's always great to see a wolf.
Nice pic - agree with comments above and I would consider a 16:9 crop losing some of the red grasses and some of the top of the spiky tree in the middle of the image. You could paint the clarity back into the wolf a bit to bring out the details. I like the dark 'gloaming' look. Think it works.

Hi Gregor - Have never seen one of these in real life. I like the mood and the comp, but agree on the comments on the sharpness and (-) clarity.

I´m glad you think the "mood" worked. I´m all with you that my clarity -30 all over don´t. So I made a new round in Lightroom. Everything the same, but I painted the background separately with -30 in clarity and a lot noise reduction. Then I sharpened the wolf and added +10 clarity. I´m not a PS user, hence removing branches is not easy for me. Better?
