Same bird ,thought I would try a panoramic crop to see what you all think. Bird was placed on right of pic and then top and bottom cropped off. Slight tweak to sharpness and clarity, blur tool over the water in front and behind the bird, not much else done, distance was approx. 30 m's away. Canon 1D mkIV, Canon 500 f4 is + 1.4, 1/1250 sec f8, ISO 640.

Interesting crop chosen here, guess it works very nicely in here with the bird being small in the frame
The bird is exposed nicely and great details on the bird even though its small in the frame.
Interesting and innovative way of thinking here.

You managed a good exposure and nice details. I also like the low angle approach you used here...it gave nice texture to the wavelets. Generally a bird small in the frame looks better in a corner. I like that you took the initiative of trying a pano crop, but placing the bird in a lower corner strengthens the comp IMO. Hope you like the repost showing this (sorry for the repeating patterns...just a quick edit with available pixels). The other thing the image is missing is a better head angle, for a better connection with the viewer.

I like what you've done with the pano but prefer Daniel's RP in terms of comp. I agree on wishing for a slightly better HA>

Thanks for your comments, Daniel - I agree it does look better in the lower corner, thanks for taking the time to work on it.
