This little guy was captured at Green Cay Wetlands. He was painted with a Nikon D70s using a Nikkor 300mm f/4D and a Nikkor 1.4 T/C.

great exposure, gus!! bird looks good. i'd like to see some canvas in front to give the bird some room to look into and maybe put a little more light in his eye. i think you did a great job handling the steep angle from being on the boardwalk. it's tough when they are low and you are perched up high, but this is not bad.
one trick that has been working for me with eyes lately is USM. i set the intensity to ~20 and the radius to ~40 and just work in those two areas til i get something i like. experiment with that and see if you like it. maybe one of the mods can suggest another idea too.

One thing to consider with that type bg is your aperture. Shooting a t F11.0 will maximize the bg detail which detracts from the image. Next bird you find under similar conditions do try several settings. Will be obvious which is best.
