    Default Yellow Warbler Singing

    Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada
    Nikon D300 ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR
    1/250s f/7.1 at 400.0mm iso200
hand held from F150, natural light, 75% of FF

A mit-full of warblers are passing through a local park, and some frustating shooting was enjoyed!! (I think)

    thanks for looking!

Thanks for the comments, I opened this image in PS, made it look dark with my Nvidia controls, then redited.

this should be better at least!! I find it difficult to get the yellow looking right against that green bg.

    Thanks Doug!

A beautiful sharp image, Raymond. The singing is a big plus. Love the green background. I think the image could go brighter. You might try brightening the catchlight a bit.

A very colorful little songbird. You captured a nice pose with him singing. I like his perch as well.

Nice job Raymond. Would definitely go a little brighter on the bird. Here's a repost with a couple of other changes. How do you like it?

I like the repost Raymond. You have captured the action well and have adequate DoF to cover the whole bird. The colours are saturated but not overly-so. We are still waiting for the influx of warblers in New Brunswick.

thanks everyone, on my monitor, the repost shows the yellow washed out, and the detail lost., and I am sure the problem is my monitor. Thanks for the help!

Well done, Ray! I really like the composition, and background. The pose of your subject is great. I would definitely go brighter on the entire image. The perch looks really dark and I would lighten it as well as your subject.

thanks Blake., I did have a hard time with this one, is seemed no matter what I did, I couldn't get the bird to look as yellow as it is., I think the bg is too bright now, but my very limited PS skills won't allow me to improve the image. Something about yellow on green.

Yellow is one of the most difficult colors to render properly. Green can hold a lot of yellow, so adjusting the yellow may also adjust the look of the green background. Best thing to do is create multiple selective color adjustment layers and mask one to your subject and one to the background. Do your best to make it look like what you saw in the field, and that's really all we can do :)

I agree 100%., I will need to study some tutorials and learn some ps skills indeed.
