    Default Portrait of a Matriarch

We had a blast seeing this matriarch and her family walked directly towards our safari vehicle. Image was taken at mid day, but luckily the sky was overcast, so light was good.

Added a sliver of canvas on the left hand side for composition. I have tried to incorporate the lessons I have learned the past 2 months from this forum here from Steve, Morkel, Rachel, and you all.

Hope this is an improvement and thank you for your comments.

Superb image of this elle Loi, This is surly your best elephant image I think!!! Very well done. I like the soft light and walking pose and the green BG is cool.

Hi Loi - I've got to agree that this is one of your best to date. You did all the hard work, we just gave you a few pointers and additional tools. Color and detail look great, with lovely layers in the bg. Nice walking pose with room at the bottom. Portrait orientation was the right choice in the field and techs look good too. Only thing I would do is burn the ele's right tusk slightly.

    Keep them coming and TFS,
    Rachel

Loi, indeed a great image. I like the soft pastel like colors and the detail and textures in the ele, comp works nicely too. Agree with rachel on toning down the one tusk a little. I may be inclined to try adding a little more mid tone to the ele as well just to see if it help pop a little more, just experimental though.

    Hi Loi,
like the walking pose of the elephant , nicely framed.
Would agree about nice colors and the BG.
Think the elephant could stand some tweaks in tonality in light and dark mid tones to give the subject more form, also think you could tone down the tusk a tad as others already said.

Can only echo that it's looking really good, Loi.
I still feel there's some residual green/cyan left in the elephant skin that can be toned out easily enough.
Andreas has a point on adding a hint more structure/depth to the elephant too.

Hi Loi, I agree with all others, your best so far.
The part between the tusks up to the eyes, the forehead, not above the eyes, just between. Push there a bit more details or contrast. That looks to me a bit flat! Love the pastel colors. In the elle itself, pull back a bit the yellows that takes the green look away

    Have a great day

    Ciao

Hi Loi, good comp, and it works well with the walking pose, and I do like the raised foot too. The overcast conditions have helped, and the detail on the ellie looks good. Good suggestions above to ooze out that extra bit of detail.

Hi Everyone, thank you for your kind comments. I do like this image a lot and will hang it in my office :).

Rachel, thanks again, I have done a little bit of burning on the right tusk to bring out more details, good idea.

Annette, I played around a little bit with WB on a jpeg file during lunch break and saw the excess Yellow as you suggested. Balancing the colors added more Blue and Took away some of the Yellow.

Agreed that overall the ele can take more contrast. I worked on this image with a monitor at home, now looked at the posted image on the monitor at work and saw a big difference in terms of contrast or lack thereof. So, I will need to calibrate the home monitor.

I will find time later to re-work the image before printing.

    Thanks again.

Sorry - late to this one. Lovely composition and caught it mid-stride which is nice.
