Hi Marlies - Welcome to BPN! I've deleted your duplicate thread and asked to have this thread moved to the Avian Forum where it properly belongs. I hope that you have some non-avian wildlife that you'll share with us too.

A big welcome to BPN Marlies! Awesome first post (which I've moved to Avian), great warm colours, nice subdued light, and full of beautiful details. Appealing dry grass habitat. A better head angle (angled more towards us) generally is better because it gives a better connection to the viewer...and that would be the case here too. All else looks great...looking forward to more!

Welcome to BPN. I think this is the best place to learn anywhere. Very nice habitat, I'd sharpen the bird a little more. I agree with Daniel that a slight head turn would improve the image.

Welcome, Marlies. This is an amazing forum on which to learn the craft of bird photography. Great image to start out with. i love the colors throughout, and your composition and exposure are well done. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Hi Marlies - Beautiful image of this gracious bird - the largest African bird able to fly and one of the "Big Six" birds! Lovely colors and detail in the subject. I also like the natural environment it is placed in with IMO the clean background created by the grassland and DOF. Ditto on the comments regarding the head angle.
    Cheers.
    Hennie.
