After having photographed small sandpipers and yellowlegs I finally got to see and photographed my first plovers of the year....some Semipalmated Plovers. Very cute and fun to watch on the beach with their step-step-step-stop foraging ways...ā-la American Robin on a lawn type of way. The background is a combination of mud, sand, grasses, water, and sky.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, eye work (burn pupil, lighten iris), a few pieces of debris patched and cloned out.
Hi Dan, your usual low angle, and what a great angled pose from the plover. I do like the slightly raised foot, as if he is favouring it from being sore. I realise it is just how the foot was at time of capture. One of best BG's Ive seen in a long time. It takes the overall image over the top.
I think the low shooting angle makes this for me. Also like the mix of colors in the background but the green makes it stand out more. Excellent capture.
Even though this is an autumn image , it has a real springtime feel to it. Nice fresh colours to go with the nice fresh juvie plumage.
Great IQ as always,
Gail
You have a great aptitude for getting these wonderful body angles on your shorebird images...slightly turned in towards you...very nice. Subject isolation rocks, though I would not mind seeing a slightly elevated shooting angle to get a sliver more of focused ground under the bird. Juvenile bird too no?
