Image captured early morning on Lake St Lucia from boat. Tripod with Gimbal head.
Big crop-60%, cropped to have bigger image, decided to go tighter for more emphasis on eye- IQ allowed it.
Chose this image to experiment with luminosity masks- dark areas with little detail and very bright areas.
Manage to pull detail from darks, but not to fix the blown areas; tried lights masks( even to super lights).
Please feel free to crit/comment/ advise.

Posting this image just before we depart for Kalahari, please forgive me for not replying right away- we will be without comms/electricity

I noticed a green tinge on laptop, but not on MAC?

Hi Andre - I really like this. Nice golden light, a visible eye and iris which isn't so easy with a hippo and the low pov all work a treat. You've extracted nice detail with the luminosity masks though I am sure Steve will have a suggestion for even more . Since this is a large crop, I am wondering if you can have an alternate comp with less of the hippos' left side (right as we view it) and the eye in the lower right ROT position. Just something to give a try.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Your PP has grown in leaps and bounds these past few weeks, Andre.
I echo Rachel's thoughts. Great light and feel here, and the focus is all on that eye. You guys must have a blast in the Kgalagadi! Hoping for some epic shots upon your return...

Great texture on the skin around the eye, makes me want to reach out and touch it. I like the centered eye, might only try equal space on both sides between the ears and the edge. I'm on an iMac and think I see a bit of green also, but mostly behind the ear.

Great detail here. I also see green streaks in the water, but assumed that it was natural coloration in the water.

very nice Andre! I might go with the more room/equal room on the ears.....but I can also see this tighter with the eye on ROT....either way....fantastic light and excellent details!

Beautiful close-up of this hippo. I like the warm light on the eye.

Hi Andre - I like the details seen in and around the eye. I am in agreement to change the comp a bit to create equal space beyond each ear. TFS.
