That's some great evening light Grace. The bird is very well lit and exposed beautifully. A nice side profile pose, the raise foot and the green BG make for a very appealing shot. Well done

I like the setting alot here Grace, and the light quality is very appealing. Nice walking pose. Perhaps toning down the bright whites n the flanks would be good.

Nice balance of bird and environment. Low pov. On my monitor, the flanks do look just a bit hot, as mentioned by Daniel.

great light & details. like the comp, pose & the setting. almost has a studio feel to it.
Gorgeous light, great alert pose, and a fine puddle. Lovely shot that could bear just a tad less brightness on the flank (which measures 253-254 in spots).
I like the raised foot, light, setting, HA, IQ and composition. Beautiful image Grace!
Thanks everyone! I still have not mastered how to tame those whites, (reds) in warm light. I get them under control in the tiff (they are not blown to begin with) and then loose them when turning into a jpeg. Any suggestions?
I can't say that I do any better - I certainly don't always get it right - but I try to keep the brightest whites at 235 or below in the TIFF before converting.Originally Posted by Grace Scalzo

Fantastic light and BG. You can always try a layer and just tone down the brightness and contrast in that small area. A minor tweak to a very nice image!
Hi Grace, the late light has brought out such lovely warm colours on the lesser yellowlegs, and I do like the overall setting with the sparsely spread grasses. Capturing the raised leg takes this up a few notches.
What a lovely portrait of this yellowlegs. Your light and low angle can't be beat. Sounds like Roman has a good suggestion for the one thing that could improve this, fixing the blown-looking area. Knowing you, I am sure you got the exposure right in camera!

ROFL when I saw the title before it was changed! Had you discovered a new species we could have called it "Graces' Yellowlegs or the Scalzo Longlegged Tringine".
The light is to die for! IQ is excellent as always and perfect POV.
I, too, have the same question re: whites becoming hot after converting the TIFF to JPEG,
