    Default (another) Sandpiper ID



    Taken In the Richard DeKorte Wildlife preserve in New Jersey. 09/01/2013

    I'm guessing a Least Sandpiper but Im not sure. Thanks.

    this is going to be fun again!

    If I got something out of the other thread, I'll go with Least for this one. Bill shape, smaller head and bright rufous coverts lead me in this direction. Leg color is a pain again.

    Is this also a juvenile?

    Yes, this one is a Least Sandpiper. The yellowish legs (but they are discoloured by mud), darker overall "feel" to semipalm, and the slightly drooping bill tapered thinner at he tip all indicate Least. It is a juvenile one with the nice fresh-looking rufous feathers.
