    Default Gannet Coming Over

Taken from a fishing boat 22km offshore from Halifax, NS, Canada last weekend.

    D7000, 300 f4-AF-S, TCE14, hand-held. 1/3200, f7.1, ISO 320, EV -2/3.

Basic processing in LR and PSE. I decided on a vertical crop, and with that, the wingtips almost touched the edge of the frame. The sky really was deep blue!

    Thanks for looking,

    Richard

Beautiful image.I like the wing spread and it's tips in two corners and tight composition.

I like the diagonal, and yes the vertical crop was the way to go - but I'd prefer more room all around. As posted the image is oversharpened. Good light angle illuminating the side of the face and body.

Nicely caught and well focused. The image appears a little refractile to me - probably a little over sharpened?? The bird is very large in the frame, I would add canvas retaining a similar composition.

After thinking about it and looking at the critiques I decided to crop it quite differently and re-post as a close up. I also tried adding canvas to the original, but it didn't really seem to work well. I personally prefer it. I don't think I over sharpened it this time.
