This photo of a Horned Grebe was taken last week on a nearby lake. These birds have the strangest eyes! 40D, 500 f/4 +1.4X, 1/1600, f/7.1, ISO 400. I cloned a few specular highlights. Comments are welcome.
Pretty damned good for all of the reasons mentioned above. Love the combo of rufous and blue and the detail in the crest. Agree about their weird eyes. De-SATing the red about 10 points and then darkening the pupil often helps.
