Hi Gail - This is a great image!!! The light looks great, as does your exposure. You always want to focus on the eye if possible - Looks like the sharpest part of the image is the shoulder. You sure got a nice composition going, and I love the nice clean bg. and great colors. I bet you were able to focus that 500 a lot closer with the Ext. tube. The oof limb does not bother me at all. Nice capture Gail!!! :)

Hi Gail Since you have them at your feeder why not try controlling the perch? Try setting on up differently

You don't want any part of the perch in front of the bird. Having a large oof mass will detract from the image. Would tape a small branch to the large branch. Do consider the light angle which seems fine here. Also keep track of the bg which is also good for your image.

Pose wise I would like the head more turned. I can see a little bit of the other eye. I like the exposure and sharpness. You will have a blast with these little guys !!!

what a beautiful bird, gail!! i agree with al, the perch is so big it almost overpowers the bird. i hope you try al's suggestion with the smaller perch. cant wait to see what you get!!

The subject is dead on as far as exposure and detail. Sure a nice head turn would help kick it up a notch! You do need to take a trip to Perches R Us though! :)

Keep them coming, I am looking forward to more!

Thanks very much for the suggestions and to Peter for the repost. The repost is really helpful in terms of what it might have looked like with a different perch as well as what CS can do. Funny, I never even saw the other eye.
I'll look into Perches R Us, but you probably only find those stores in the USA :-) Is it a fish store? :-)
    Cheers

Congratulation Gail on a beautiful capture. The repost makes it that much better. Excellent exposure and background.
