Decided to go for a tight crop to avoid the red meat of a fresh wildebeest kill. Removed a bit of meat at the lower right corner and a few strands of grass on the lower left corner.

Minimal PP. Selective brightened the eyes with Curves. Selective UMS on the lion at 50/0.3.0, eye at 120/0.3/0.

    Appreciate your comments.

    Hi Loi

A very good portrait. Cleaning it up a bit I think was the way to go. I think you could do with a little more clarity, sharpness and saturation. i would like to see more color in her eyes and her tongue. Please compare with the recent lion portrait thread "The possibility of a long life" by Gabriela Plesea.

Hi Loi - a nice, clean portrait with the flies and bit of blood adding to it. Good detail and a creamy bg. I think you may have lightened the eyes a bit too much given that she is in the shade. I would also apply another round of sharpening to the face.

Hi Loi, nice portrait and you have the detail, clarity and sharpness in there. I might just tweak the white slider in Levels to around 235 before things blow. Your call, but moving the crop a fraction to the right so you have the same space on the LHS as above I think may help.

Nice portrait, well done. Seems the PP is moving along nicely.

I'm glad you like this portrait.

Rachel, You wer right about the eyes were too bright. I thought about it after brightening it. Here in the RP, I darkened it a wee bit.

Gregor, for this series of lion photos with a yellow BG, I feel adding saturation pushes the images over the edge. As for sharpening, I have tried UMS from 30 (amount) to 120. I feel that at the 900X900 pixels and 400K, the lion looks over sharpened at 80 - 120. Fort a full resolution, of course, I'd add more sharpening.

Steve, the comp was out of my laziness. I recognized moveign the crop to make the same space between the LHS and the top would be good, but that mean I need to remove more of the wildebeest chunk of meat at the RHS corner, but you don't miss anything, do you? Here is a RP with a slightly more balance. Moving Levels to 235 makes it a bit brighter, more attractive image. Thank you!

Small changes, and I think it improved quite a bit. Well done.

Looks good - the lightening touches give it much more life and appeal.
