From the same outing, but here the sun peeked out through the clouds for a few moments giving me some nice colours in the surroundings. Again, laying flat across the "hood" of the paddle boat to achieve a lower angle.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp (about 70% FF), extra catchlight obstructing the pupil eliminated (clone tool), toned down the white breast which was pushing hot (burn tool), some BG heat shimmer evident along the blue band and green above it eliminated with some Gaussian blur, bluish cast on the body reduced via hue/saturation (on blue channel)
I like the positioning the bird in the frame.
Nice colors on the water and in the background.
The shooting angle is pretty low, works well here.
I also like the wake created by the Loon.
Exposure looks good. Excellent work, Daniel.
Awesome shot Daniel. Low angles works really well. Love the green, blue, green colouration. And really enjoy the wake created by the loon. These are beautiful birds! The dark head of the loon looks awesome. Could its neck be more textured or was the light too bright
The extra light really makes things pop in this one. I do really like the more subdued loon images as well, as that is often the way I see them, but this one works very well.
Nice head angle, I like the off center bow wake, low angle.
I agree with Diane about the top of the bg. Might try a version with it toned down ever so slightly.
The composition is excellent. It's infrequent to see a loon image on the avian forums where someone used this much focal length but left the comp. spacious regarding subject size in the frame. The raised tail is nice! Technically rocks as per your usual. Great warmth/colors.
