Taken at Medicine Lake, MT in May. This was one of the species I really wanted to photograph in breeding plumage. The weather/light was pretty bad when I was there, so I had to crank up the ISO and work hard to get what I could.
I thought with the bird looking straight at me, that I could center the eyes.
    Crop, sharpening, noise removal, levels.
Thanks so much for any comments and critiques.

In spite of bad whether, you have captured the colors and details superbly.
Love the pose, straight look of handsome bird at you, red eyes along with golden feathers, sharpness, water droplets, waves and beautiful composition.

    Regards,
    Satish.

The look is almost human; so cute! Lovely capture and processing.

    Hi Melissa,
This is really good. The eyes are very mesmerizing and really draw me into the shot.
Nice soft diffuse lighting really helps this image .
Love the DOF you got at 5.6. How big of a crop?
The little wavelets frame the bird really nicely but I see some grainyness and would do some more NR on the wavelets.
Love your low POV as well.
    Good one girlie!

The look on this grebe's face is priceless! Wonderful angle captured. Were you in the water with the birds? You've really captured the essence of the weather as well. I keep looking behind him to see what's going to come out of the fog, lol.
I'm probably off on this but I keep thinking just an ever slight CCW rotation could be done?
All in all a wonderful image.

Very nice looking head on shot of this Grebe. Love the piercing red eyes and the water drops on the back. Good job on the high key exposure and the details look great. Well done

Superb image, Melissa. The eyes have it. Great POV and high-key look. Although the eyes are almost exactly level, I, too felt it needed just a touch of CCW rotation. Comp works nicely for me.

Thanks a lot, everyone. I'll work on more noise removal and on horizon leveling at home. Gail, it was about a 30% crop. Now when are you going to put up some LI pics????
