This was an easy one to do but sometimes easy is good! I photographed a Zentangle pattern pillow (with my iPhone) that an artist friend was hand painting although the pillow was purchased at a garage sale. I heard about a cool iPhone photo app called Etchings from Jack Davis during his recent class and I bought it for like .99. I tried it on the pillow image and this is the result after being inverted with a preset in the app. In Ps I combined two photos with photomerge panorama and did a little transforming, and added a double stroke edge since it looked like it needed to be "contained". Zentangle is a really cool art/craft that several of my artist friends do. It's made up of patterns and doodles or I should say doodles using patterns. They can also be colored as well as black and white. There are many websites and several books out now on it. I love it but I'm not very good at it You can read about it here http://www.squidoo.com/zentangles

I don't understand what you did (that's OK), but like the results. Clean. Crisp. Looks like a fun drawing!

Thanks Anita! The photo was of a pillow that just had simple line drawings on it. My artist friend had colored in parts of it. I used an app on my iPad called Etchings and I chose a black and white that was inverted so the white background became black. What etchings does is add a grid-like cross hatching effect based on the image. I used the same effect on the last image I posted of a palm frond.

Thanks for the explanation. I understand it better now. Very successful. Amazing what one can do with iPhones!

Judy, I love the graphic look of this one. I especially like the composition with the horizontals on the top. And thanks for the website - I've never heard of Zentangles

Thanks Cheryl! This was the first image I tried Etchings on and I was pretty amazed with the transformation. You should try Zentangle, they say it's very relaxing. All you need is some art paper and a fairly fine Sharpie pen! Then go on Amazon and do the "look inside" some of the Zentangle books. I did because a friend wanted to buy one while visiting and we looked at a bunch of them. The real artists are very good at it. One of my artist friends did white Christmas balls with Zentangle patterns, so cool!!

That's very cool, different, and interesting! I never heard of that either, but I'm going to check it out.
