Wolfville, NS, Canada at high tide the other day. These large locally breeding and migrant shorebirds look rather plain gray-brown at rest, particularly when too far to see the feather detail, but show their true colors in fligt.

    D7000, 300 f4-AFS +TCE-14, hand-held, manual exp., 1/2500, f5.6, -1/3EV, ISO 500.

Cropped, adjusted, nr, selective sharpening in LR4.

    Thanks for looking,

    Richard

I think you have a good shot there but I suspect the crop is a little too large and possibly a little over sharpened. Exposure looks good but I may be tempted to reduce the brightest parts just a little.

Thanks for the comment, Jonathan --- Perhaps you're right. Anyway, here's a re-post, hopefully incorporating your suggestions. Any better?

The RP is much better; lovely capture.

I like the colors, tone, and sharpening of the rp much better, but I would keep the original crop. But to each his own. Nice capture

I rather like the exposure on the original except for just a couple of hot spots in the whites, the re post has helped with that aspect but now the body looks a little drab imo....more selective toning down of just the whites would be a little better. I personally like the tighter in frame of the original and kudos for the slightly dorsal view of this bird, not something often done.

The repost is much better Richard, I think it would be even better if the crop was reduced a little (i.e. bird slightly smaller in the frame) and the image sharpened just a little more.
