Even though I was way off the light angle (owl is looking into the setting sun), I like the effect on this one. The face is well lit and the eye looked like glass. The eyelid shadow helped emphasize the horizon/sun reflection.

Hi David With soft light you don't have as many problems with shadows Bird is well illuminated and I like it. Would want to increase the contrast just a bit Seems a little flat as presented.

I like the eye very much Point of focus must have been right on it Would give an extra usm pass for the nose area Very appealing image !!! btw framing wise would have gone a little higher to avoid some of the oof grass and as presented would crop some of it !!!

I like the composition - amount of OOF BG top vs. bottom just right. Agree with Alfred's suggestions.

    Hello David,

WOW!!! What a stunning picture!!! I really like it very much!!! The eye, placed at the correct place within your composition is really like glass, as you said!!! Talking composition, you did very well with this one... I personnally like the blurry foreground giving depth to the whole picture... Very nice bg also enhancing the bird vwey nicely...

The only missing thing is the date and the place of the capture of this great owl... BTW, which species is this??? A burrowing Owl???

    Cheers and thanks for sharing...

Yes Pilonm, it is a burrowing owl; created at Brian Piccolo Park before sunset. As always, thanks for the inputs/learnings, Al. I can bump the s curve a little more as the DOF was narrow (due to closeness to subject). I probably could have stopped down more and still had a clean BG from this angle.

I like this one David, low angle, OOF grasses and all. Great detail and clarity in all the right areas.
